Underworld and Heller & Farley rework ‘Baby Wants to Ride’ for AIDS charity
House music legendsUnderworld and Heller & Farley have joined forces for the first time in history to record a remix of the Frankie Knuckles classic, ‘Baby Wants To Ride’.
The edit is in support of the Frankie Knuckles Fund — a charity that helps AIDS victims in Africa plus African communities in the UK and USA — and is available now for purchase via www.babywantstoride.com
The fund was established by Defmix and the Elton John AIDS Foundation following Knuckles’ passing in March last year.
“It’s fabulous. I have always LOVED Underworld,” said Sir Elton John.
“This is a great track and tribute to Frankie. Thanks to everyone involved from me and everyone at the Elton John AIDS Foundation.”
Adoration for Knuckles has continued to pour in from industry big-wigs since the much-loved DJ’s death, including Underworld’s Rick Smith.
“As the creator of house music we owe Frankie a huge debt. Karl and I have always seen Frankie as the source and, as Underworld, we’re always swimming in his river.”
‘Baby Wants To Ride’ was originally released on Junior Boys Own, an influential ’90s dance imprint that housed seminal tracks from the Chemical Brothers, X-Press 2, the Ballistic Brothers and Black Science Orchestra.
You can purchase the digital and 12” releases here with the option to pay as much or as little as you like (on the condition of a minimum 12 pound payment), so be sure to give big!
RIP Frankie, always in our hearts.
